From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has a major injury doubt over Brazilian defender Rafael ahead of tomorrow's Champions League quarter-final second leg against Chelsea at Old Trafford.
The 20-year-old suffered a knee injury in last week's 1-0 first-leg win at Stamford Bridge.
He was carried off on a stretcher but scans have shown there was no ligament damage and, although Rafael missed Saturday's Barclays Premier League win over Fulham, Ferguson did expect him to be fit for tomorrow's decider.
However, Rafael was restricted to running only at United's Carrington training complex this morning.
And unless he makes a very speedy recovery, it appears his place will go to John O'Shea.
"Rafael did a bit of jogging this morning," said Ferguson.
"Hopefully he will be able to be ready for tomorrow but I am not sure about it.
"There is a little doubt and it is not something I want to be risking in a major game.
"He really has to do something special tomorrow morning to change my mind about it."
