Manchester City secured a second consecutive Premier League title in May, but it was rivals Liverpool who lifted the Champions League trophy.

That piece of silverware has long eluded City, and the arrival of Pep Guardiola – who won the competition twice as Barcelona manager – has not been enough to improve the team’s fortunes in Europe.

Since Guardiola took over at the Manchester club, they have failed to make it past the quarter-finals of the tournament, losing to Tottenham Hotspur last year and Liverpool the season before that.

City fans will be hoping that this is the year their side finally go all the way, and a favourable group draw on Thursday 29th August (5pm BST) would be a start.

Which teams would make up the easiest possible group for City, and which would present the toughest tests?

See the above gallery for Manchester City’s best and worst case scenarios in Thursday’s draw from Monaco.
