Manchester City travel to Italy to take on Atalanta in the Champions League on Wednesday before a potentially season-defining league match with Liverpool on Sunday.

Pep Guardiola’s team are top of Group C with nine points from nine, including a 5-1 thrashing of Atalanta in Manchester in their last European game, but the Spanish manager said this week he would not prioritise the Liverpool fixture when picking his players for Wednesday’s match.

That remains to be seen, but what is certain is that City will have taken confidence from their ability to score two late goals on Saturday to come from behind and beat Southampton.

Meanwhile, Atalanta – who are bottom of the group with no points to show for their efforts – rebounded from their defeat to City last month with a 7-1 Serie A win against 10-man Udinese and a 2-2 draw with Napoli, but most recently suffered a 2-0 loss to Cagliari after having a player sent off.

Here is everything you need to know as the Italian club host Manchester City in the Champions League.

Team news

David Silva’s presence for the visitors is doubtful as the Spain international sustained a muscle issue against Southampton, while Phil Foden will miss out through suspension after receiving a red card in the reverse fixture. Aymeric Laporte, Leroy Sane, Rodri and Oleksandr Zinchenko will all be absent through injury.

Meanwhile, Atalanta striker Duvan Zapata will not play due to a muscle injury.

Predicted line-ups

Man City: Emerson; Cancelo, Otamendi, Stones, Mendy; Gundogan, Fernandinho, B. Silva; Jesus, Mahrez, Sterling.

Atalanta: Gollini; Toloi, Palomino, Djimsiti; Castagne, Freuler, Pasalic, Gosens, Gomez; Ilicic, Muriel.

When is it?

Kick-off at the San Siro is at 8pm GMT on November 6.

How can I watch it?

The match will be aired live on BT Sport 3.

Subscribers can also watch the game via the BT Sport app or online via the BT Sport player.

Prediction

Whether or not Guardiola rests players ahead of the Liverpool game, City should be able to beat Atalanta comfortably. Maybe not as comfortably as in their 5-1 win at home in the reverse fixture, but without much trouble nonetheless.

3-0 to City is our prediction.
