From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Philippe Coutinho: The Brazilian has been excellent for Liverpool in the past two seasons, but will look to come back to form after recently returning from a hamstring injury. He is the Reds’ biggest talent in midfield and the 23-year-old has a great opportunity to get back on the score sheet against Augsburg, who are struggling in the Bundesliga and travel away from home to face English opposition for the first time in their history. Coutinho has netted six times for Liverpool this season, but is yet to score in the Europa League since joining the Reds in January 2013.

0: Augsburg have a daunting task ahead of them at Anfield, as Liverpool have never lost a home match to German opposition. Also, the German side have never featured in the last 32 of the Europa League and go into the game as the underdogs.
Player to watch…
Daniel Sturridge: With just nine appearances for Liverpool this season, the England striker has done well to register five goals in a stop-start season, but he looks to have finally got over the worst of his injury problems. Sturridge has been clinical for the Reds in recent years and will hope to get his first European goal for the club against Augsburg on Thursday and strike up a partnership with summer signing Roberto Firmino - having started the reverse fixture alongside the Brazil international. The 26-year-old scored in Liverpool’s last Premier League fixture - winning 6-0 at Aston Villa.
