Liverpool will launch their attempt to regain their status as champions of Europe against XXXX at XXXX on 20/21 October after Uefa confirmed this season’s Champions League group stage fixtures.

The 2018/19 champions landed a favourable draw on Thursday, having been placed in Group D alongside an Ajax side that is a long way from the team who reached the semi-finals two years ago, as well as emerging Serie A side Atalanta.

With Danish minnows Midtjylland making up the group, Jurgen Klopp’s side will want to ensure they do a professional job over the coming months to book their place in the last 16, given they sit as not only favourites to progress from the group but among those teams best placed to go on and win the entire competition.

After the reigning Premier League champions open their campaign against XXXX, they will then take on XXXX at XXXX the following week, before double-header against XXXX that begins at XXXX at the start of November. The second encounter between the two sides takes place a fortnight later, which will go a long way to deciding where Liverpool’s European fate lies this season.

Their penultimate group game comes with the return fixture against XXXX on 1/2 December, before wrapping up the campaign against XXXX the following week.

Should Liverpool emerge unscathed and into the last 16, they will discover their opponents in the knockout stage on 14 December when Uefa holds the draw.
