Liverpool fans were desperate for the introduction of England striker Daniel Sturridge just half an hour into the Europa League second leg clash with Borussia Dortmund.

Jurgen Klopp's Reds entered the game in confident mood, having secured a 1-1 draw (and therefore an away goal) after an excellent performance in the Westfalenstadion last week.

But all that hard work was undone within 10 minute's as Thomas Tuchel's side launched two unstoppable counter-attacks to leave Liverpool staring at defeat with 80 minutes still to play.

First, Henrikh Mkhitaryan scored after just five minutes as Dortmund broke following Philippe Coutinho's sloppy pass.

Then, Marco Reus drove Dortmund forward and found strike partner Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, who made no mistake in scoring his 37th goal of the season.

Klopp had decided to leave Sturridge on the bench in favour of Divock Origi, who was extremely impressive a week ago, scoring in Germany.

But as Liverpool attacked well and missed chances, calls for Sturridge mounted
