From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Jens Lehmann, the German international goalkeeper, has set a dubious record by being shown a red card for shoving his Borussia Dortmund team-mate, Marcio Amoroso. Lehmann became the first Bundesliga goalkeeper to be sent off four times in his career.

"It doesn't matter of it's a rival player or a team-mate," said referee Herbert Fandel, who showed Lehmann his second yellow card in Saturday's 2-2 draw between Dortmund and Schalke 04.

Elsewhere in the Bundesliga, Bayern Munich moved closer to another title with a 2-0 victory over lowly Nuremberg on Saturday. A first-half header from Bixente Lizarazu and a strike from Giovane Elber after the break helped Bayern extend their lead over second-placed Dortmund to 10 points.

In France, the leaders Marseille gained a 2-0 victory over struggling Lille as challengers Paris St-Germain slumped to a clumsy 3-2 defeat at Guingamp on Saturday.

The former Everton striker Ibrahima Bakayoko converted a cross from Manuel Dos Santos in the first half and Pascal Johansen netted a free-kick in the 80th minute to give a resurgent Marseille three points.
