Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Bale, who was heavily criticised after an awful performance in the first leg, was better than he was last week in Turin but had three excellent chances to get on the score sheet at the Bernabeu.
The chances all came in the second period, after Alvaro Morata put Juventus on the brink of a place in the final.
The first came with a Marcelo cut-back from the left, Bale striking at goal from close-range but Juventus defender Giorgio Chiellini got a touch on the ball.
The next came minutes later as the ball rebounded back to the Welsh winger on the edge of the box, but he snatched at the effort and it flew wide.
His third chance was easily the best of the bunch, again Marcelo doing well down the left before a cross came in - Bale leapt way above Juve left back Patrice Evra, but the world's most expensive player couldn't keep his header down and it flew just over the bar.
Bale also had a really good long-range effort saved in the first-half by Gianluigi Buffon, but that was the only one of his five shots that found the target.
The game eventually finished 1-1 and Real Madrid were elimated. And then came the memes:
