Bayern Munich have confirmed that winger Franck Ribery was involved in an “altercation” with a French journalist after Saturday’s 3-2 defeat to rivals Borussia Dortmund.
Eyewitness reports claimed that Ribery pushed and slapped French TV journalist Patrick Guillou during a post-match interview after the reporter suggested that the 35-year-old was responsible for two of the goals Dortmund scored during the game.
Bayern said the matter will be dealt with internally. Speaking to Bild, sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic said: “Franck Ribery has informed us that he had an altercation with his compatriot Patrick Guillou, whom he has known well for many years.
“We agreed with Patrick Guillou that we would speak at a personal meeting, we will talk about how we can solve the matter, and Mr Guillou has already signalled that it is in his interest.”
Robert Lewandowski scored twice for Bayern but two goals from Marco Reus and one from Paco Alcacer were enough to give Dortmund a big victory at Signal Iduna Park.
The result maintains Dortmund’s unbeaten start to the new Bundesliga season and keeps them at the top of the table after 11 matches, four points clear of Borussia Monchengladbach in second.
Bayern lie fifth, seven points adrift of Dortmund having lost three times already this season, and new head coach Niko Kovac is already facing questions about his long-term future at the club.
Ribery is yet to register a goal or an assist in 14 appearances for Bayern this season across all competitions.
