Tottenham face a difficult Europa League last-32 tie against Italian side Serie A Fiorentina, the side who eliminated them from the same competition at exactly the same stage last season.

Spurs’ best Europa League performance remains the quarter-final appearance in 2013 when they were knocked out by FC Basel, although their best in Europa remains the Champions League campaign of 2010/11 when they were knocked out by Real Madrid in the quarter-finals.

With Spurs performing well in the Premier League despite losing 2-1 to Newcastle at the weekend, there are hopes of success in Europe this season.

Mauricio Pochettino’s side came through the group stage relatively unscathed as they topped Group J, picking up victories in all three of their home matches against Anderlecht, Monaco and Qarabag and only slipping up in Belgium on their travels.

Spurs will play the first-leg in Florence on Thursday 18 February with the return leg a week later on 25 February, while the draw for the last-16 will be made after the matches have played out.
