It’s a big game for…

Franck Ribery: In the absence of Arjen Robben, the creative onus falls upon Franck Ribery, who has arguably been the player of the season so far for Carlo Ancelotti’s side. From the left wing, the Frenchman has provided more assists than anybody else in the league and will certainly provide a tough challenge for Dortmund’s right-back Lukasz Pisczczek.

Best stat…

Despite a good record against the champions when Jurgen Klopp was manager, Dortmund have failed to reach those heights in the fixtures since, winning just one of the last six derbies (and that was on penalties). If we look at the Bundesliga alone, this record is even worse – just one victory from the last eight games.

The home side currently sit in 5th place and already trail Bayern by six points. Therefore they cannot afford to drop more points if they want to challenge for the title or, at the very least, qualify for next year’s Champions League.

Remember when…

Bayern thrashed their title rivals just over a year ago to extend to their winning run to eight at the beginning of the season. Robert Lewandowski and Thomas Muller each scored a brace to seven points clear of Dortmund after Thomas Tuchel’s disappointing first Klassiker in charge.

Player to watch…

Ousmane Dembele: Since signing from Rennes in the summer, the young Frenchman has proved a revelation, making the right-wing position his own. Dembele is one of the brightest prospects in European football and one of a handful of youngsters impressing at Dortmund, including Christian Pulisic, Raphael Guerreiro and Julian Weigl amongst others.
