From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Deportivo La Coruna manager Miguel Angel Lotina has been quoted in the Spanish press as declaring an interest in Tottenham Hotspur forward Giovani Dos Santos.

Deportivo could lose Angel Lafita, who is attracting interest from Real Zaragoza, and Lotina is lining up Dos Santos as a possible replacement.

Dos Santos has made little impact at White Hart Lane following his arrival from Barcelona and was sent out on loan to Championship outfit Ipswich Town last season.

The Mexico international was named as the player of the tournament at the recent CONCACAF Gold Cup, which his side won.

AS quoted Lotina as saying: "I know Giovani very well. Last year we spoke to him, but then Tottenham came in.

"As for Lafita, well, there is nothing. But if he goes then we will start with plan B. Dos Santos is an interesting player, but he is not the only one."

Elsewhere in Spain, Barcelona president Joan Laporta has hit out at rivals Real Madrid after his club completed the signing of Internazionale striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

The Sweden international joins in a deal worth in excess of 65million euros, with Samuel Eto'o and Alex Hleb moving in the opposite direction.

However, Laporta claims that the Catalan giants have not racked up any debts in sealing such a large deal.

He told AS: "It is a different approach to Madrid and one can interpret what they want. We did not use one single euro of our bank debt.

"This makes Barcelona a serious club who respects the rules. The difference is that we always comply with the commitments that we make."

Meanwhile, David Villa insists he is quite content to be staying with Valencia despite being the subject of interest from Real this summer.

The Spain international has said little since the end of last season but has finally broken his silence saying the chance to remain at the Mestalla suits him.

"I could not spend all summer refuting things, so I wanted to be quiet," he revealed. "I let the club make the decision for me. They have decided that I should stay and I can now set my goals for the season.

"At first I was told I should leave Valencia for the good of the club, but then everything changed and from that moment on I never saw myself going anywhere.

"I have not missed my chance to play for a bigger team because all I have achieved is because of Valencia and the Spanish national team so I do not think any train has passed.

"I am happy and eager. I have been sincere in everything and, from now on, it's over. Last summer was similar to this one. I spent four months with the same story, but from now on this matter is over."
