David Moyes has been sacked by Real Sociedad, a day shy of his one-year anniversary of taking the job.

The former Manchester United manager took charge of the Spanish side on 10 November 2014.

Sociedad have won just two of their 11 La Liga games this season and the club sit in 16th place in the league.

Moyes was sacked by United after just 10 months. He had been handpicked up the great Sir Alex Ferguson as his replacement, but it was a woeful tenure at Old Trafford. At the time of his sacking, then-champions United were seventh in the Premier League table, 13 points behind fourth-placed Arsenal with four matches remaining, ensuring United would fail to qualify for the Champions League for the first time since 1995.

"Real Sociedad has decided to rescind the contract of first-team coach David Moyes," the club said on their website on Monday, adding that assistant Billy McKinlay had also been released.

They did not immediately name a replacement but local media reported that former Celta Vigo and Barcelona B coach Eusebio Sacristan was set to take over.

If Eusebio's appointment is confirmed during the international break, his first match in charge will be a La Liga game at home to Sevilla on 21 November followed by a trip to champions Barcelona.
