From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Cristiano Ronaldo is a big fan of Lionel Messi - Cristiano Ronaldo Jnr that is.

A video of the cheeky offspring of the Real Madrid forward has emerged in which he asks his grandmother about the Barcelona star.

It doesn't appear to go down well with Ronaldo Snr's mother, Maria Dolores, who tells the five-year-old: "I don't want to know about Messi".

She then goes on to list the achievements of her Real Madrid striker son, pointing out that he's won the Ballon d'Or three times and the Golden Shoe four times.

The footage is understood to have been filmed whilst Ronaldo Snr was picking up the latest of the latter award on Tuesday. Ronaldo was collecting the Golden Shoe at a ceremony thanks to the 48 La Liga goals he scored last season.

That Ronaldo Jnr is a fan of Messi is nothing new, with footage from the Ballon d'Or ceremony earlier this year showing the youngster looking star-struck by the Argentinian before going over to meet him.

A documentary focusing on Ronaldo is due for release next month.
