Roma send out care packs to elderly season ticket holders amid coronavirus lockdown

Last week, the club announced they would buy eight ventilators and eight new intensive care beds for a hospital in Rome

AS Roma have sent out care packs to their older season ticket holders as Italy remains under lockdown amid the coronavirus crisis.

Roma, who have not played since 1 March due to the ongoing suspension of Serie A fixtures, started to contact all season ticket holders aged 75 and over earlier this week, preparing them for a delivery of their ‘Roma Cares’ packs.

The packs, which contain essential food items and medical supplies such as face masks, protective gloves and hand sanitiser, were sent out on Friday.

“This is a very worrying time for everyone, particularly the oldest members of our community,” said Francesco Calvo, chief operating officer at Roma.

“The government and the local institutions have advised the elderly to avoid leaving their homes unless it’s an emergency, so we wanted to deliver some essential supplies that we believe can help them during this time.

“It’s a small gesture from the club, but we want them to know that despite them not being able to come to the stadium to support the team, we are still close to them during this moment.”

Last week, Roma announced they would buy eight ventilators and eight new intensive care beds for Lazzaro Spallanzani Hospital in Rome.

Players and technical staff also donated a day’s salary to the club’s Covid-19 fundraising campaign.
