From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. Struggling Manchester United head to Paris to play French champions Paris Saint-Germain while Cristiano Ronaldo will return to Madrid to play Atletico in the Champions League last 16.

Tottenham drew a tough opponent in Borussia Dortmund, who are streaking clear atop the Bundesliga, while Manchester City also face German foes in the shape of Schalke.

Liverpool were drawn against Bayern Munich by Reds legend Luis Garcia, pitting Jurgen Klopp against the club that he conquered in his time at Dortmund.

Roma will play Porto, Lyon face no small task in the shape of FC Barcelona while Ajax's young bucks will take on Real Madrid.

The Champions League is likely the last chance for true salvation this season at Old Trafford, with defeat to Liverpool on Sunday leaving Mourinho's side struggling to even keep touch with the top four. Should his out-of-form United manage to get past this supercharged PSG attack, however, the Portuguese can ensure this season has a very different look to it come may.

Spurs will be conflicted about the job ahead, with Dortmund an easier opponent than many they could have been handed but enjoying a brilliant season in Germany with Jadon Sancho and Paco Alcacer shining.

Klopp's record against Bayern is sure to get a solid airing over the coming months as Liverpool prepare to face the German giants and their under-fire coach Niko Kovac.

Man City also head to Germany but will be widely considered to have lucked out with the most straightforward draw in Schalke.

Full draw:

  • Schalke vs Manchester City
  • Atletico Madrid vs Juventus
  • Manchester United vs PSG
  • Tottenham vs Borussia Dortmund
  • Lyon vs Barcelona
  • Liverpool vs Bayern
  • Roma v Porto
  • Ajax v Real Madrid

Atletico vs Juve is the pick of the ties not involving English teams, with Ronaldo returning to Madrid and Atleti capable of beating anyone. Between them they have taken part in four of the last five Champions League finals.

Roma or Porto will be in the quarter-finals this year after drawing each other, while an Ajax team that boasts a gaggle of future superstars will test themselves on one of European football's grandest stages when they head to the Bernabeu.
