Tottenham have been draw with Barcelona, PSV Eindhoven and Inter Milan in the Champions League group stage.

Barcelona are the reigning La Liga champions and this season the club captain Lionel Messi spoke of the Champions League as their premier motivation, after they failed to reach the semi-finals over the past three years. PSV won the Dutch title last season by four points from Ajax, while Inter finished fourth in Serie A under Luciano Spalletti.

Mauricio Pochettino’s side are yet to make their mark on Europe’s premier competition, having been knocked out by Juventus in the round of 16 last season. However, Spurs have made a positive start to the Premier League campaign with three victories from their opening three games including a statement 3-0 victory at Old Trafford on Monday.

The first Champions League group stage games take place on 18 and 19 September, with clubs playing the last of their six matches on 11 or 12 December. The knockout rounds begin in February, with the tournament concluding with the final at Atletico Madrid’s Wanda Metropolitano on 1 June 2019.
