The 30-year-old was deployed on the wing for City as the visitors went head-to-head with Barcelona.
But it didn’t take long before the home side had found the back of the net, courtesy of Fernandinho’s costly slip and Lionel Messi’s calm finish.
It went from bad to worse as Claudio Bravo was dismissed for handling the ball outside of his area, at which point the flood gates were open as Barcelona proceeded to run riot.
When asked by Spanish television what Guardiola had said to the side following the defeat, Nolito confessed he didn’t know.
"With my English I'm still a little bad," he told El Chiringuito.
"So I've not really understood much of what Pep has said [to the team] after the game."
Speaking about the result itself, Nolito said it was "a hard game, but we have to move on.”
He added: “They didn’t deserve to win 4-0.”
Guardiola insisted afterwards in his post-match conference that his team had been in the game up until Bravo’s dismissal.
"At that level it is hard, but until 10 against 11 it was open and we were competing against a team with a big personality,” he said. “But after the card it was over.
"We were there, we were in the game. We were pressing, we had the possession and we made the chances. We did it but we didn't take the chances and you have to do that to win the game
“Every game since Celtic has been the same. Against Everton it was the same with an own goal and two missed penalties. We need to change the atmosphere.
"We knew from the beginning it would be a tough group, now we have to focus on Southampton."
