From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

It’s a big game for…

FRANCIS COQUELIN: The Frenchman was outstanding when he came into the team last season and was arguably exactly what Arsene Wenger needed in his starting XI – a bit of steel that the Gunners were previously lacking. But with Bayern – the kings of possession – Coquelin will be working overtime at the Emirates, so it’s crucial that he performs to be Arsenal’s best chance of winning the ball back.

Best stat…

11 – Bayern Munich have won all 11 of their matches since their Bundesliga campaign began – nine league fixtures and two Champions League games. They hit five against Hamburg, Wolfsburg and Borussia Dortmund in the league and against Dimano Zagreb in their last European outing.

Remember when…

In the Champions League round of 16 2012/13, Arsenal were faced with the daunting task of overcoming Bayern. After a disastrous 3-1 defeat at the Emirates in the first leg, the Gunners travelled to the Allianz Arena with little hope. But goals from Olivier Giroud and Laurent Koscielny so nearly pulled it back for Wenger’s team who ultimately fell just short.

Player to watch…

ROBERT LEWANDOWSKI: Everyone knows about the Pole’s current form – he’s got 15 goals in his last seven matches, meaning it was a great surprise to everyone when the striker didn’t notch in his side’s 1-0 win over Werder Bremen on Saturday. Despite suffering a knock in that game, he looks set to be fit and ready to line-up against the Gunners.
