Emmanuel Petit has said Arsenal showed "no character, no passion" in their 5-1 defeat to Bayern Munich.

The heavy loss at the Allianz Arena has left Arsenal's hopes of progress to the knock-out phase of the competition hanging by a thread.

It was a markedly different display from the one seen just last month when Arsene Wenger masterminded a 2-0 victory over the Bundesliga side at the Emirates.

Petit, speaking on BT Sport, was disappointed with what he saw. The former Gunner was particular irked that Arsenal didn't appear to set up more for the draw, in the knowledge that a point could prove the difference to the club's hopes of progress.

"It's quite frustrating for the Arsenal fans because before the game we knew at least a point will make a deal," sad the Frenchman.

"They come on the pitch just like 'beat us, very easily'.

"So no character, no passion on the pitch", he added.

Victory for Olympiakos in the night's other Group F match means Arsenal must win their final two games to stand any hope of progressing.
