Former Arsenal midfielder Santi Cazorla is set to leave Spain and LaLiga and join former international team-mate Xavi Hernandez in Qatar.

The 35-year-old has been a key performer for Villarreal, who he rejoined in 2018 after six years in London.

A weekend 4-0 win over Eibar secured a fifth-place finish for the Yellow Submarine, with Cazorla playing 82 minutes of his final appearance—and assisting the opening goal.

With his contract now expired upon the end of the season, Cazorla was announced by Al Sadd as having “an agreement” to join and would soon be travelling to Doha to “complete formalities”.

The current manager of Al Sadd is Barcelona legend Xavi Hernandez, who was part of the successful Euro 2008 and Euro 2012 Spain squads alongside Cazorla.

Xavi recently extended his contract with Al Sadd through to the end of 2020/21, despite recent speculation that he could take over at the Camp Nou.
