Released by Queens Park Rangers in the season they were relegated from the Premier League, the midfielder has not made a single league appearance for new club Benfica, and he has instead been farmed out to their reserve side Benfica II.
This came off the back of a promising loan spell with AC Milan which suggested the 26-year-old Moroccan could yet live up to his billing, but if the latest video evidence of his performances are anything to go by, he should probably cut his losses and call it a day now.
In a Benfica II match against Sporting Lisbon’s reserves, Taarabt made his way over to the sideline to take a corner for his side, and with the scores locked at 0-0 heading towards half-time, it was the perfect time to deliver a cross and give your side the lead heading in at the break.
However, rather than cross the ball for his team-mates, Taarabt deemed it more appropriate to pass the ball straight out of play, and the Sporting defenders watch on with bemusement as the ball gently rolled into the side-netting to result in a goal kick.
Luckily for Taarabt, his side went on to secure a 1-0 victory thanks to a goal from young striker Nuno Santos in the 76th minute, although Taarabt was replaced three minutes later.
How he managed to remain on the pitch for nearly another 40 minutes after his howler remains a mystery.
