Meanwhile Luton Town are making their first appearance in the Premier League, having risen from non-league in an incredible decade of progress. They followed Championship winners Burnley and second-placed Sheffield United in earning promotion to the top flight.

Villa must do something to turn the momentum in their favour, as the home fans have had almost nothing to shout about.

Doyle's deep free-kick from the right just inside Villa's half goes to Lemina on the left, but he cannot keep his balance, allowing Konsa to get across and clear the ball out for a throw-in.

Ait-Nouri has been involved in two goals in his last three Premier League appearances for Wolves (one goal and one assist), as many as in his previous 55 appearances in the competition; he’s only been involved in more in a single campaign in the competition in 2021-22 (three). He should have scored moments ago and even looked across to see if he was offside.

Wolves have won three and lost just one of their last five Premier League games against sides starting the day in the top five positions (drawing one), as many wins as in their previous 31 such games (drawing six and losing 22). The Old Gold have started strongly, having 66.7 per cent of the possession in the early stages. Doyle is looking to get on the ball at every opportunity and has completed 100 per cent of his 17 passes.

OFFSIDE! Luiz puts the ball in the net, but the goal won’t count! Rogers has possession on the left and flicks a clever pass inside to Diaby, who slides a throughball into Watkins. The forward is one-on-one with Sa, but his chip is saved by the head of the goalkeeper. Luiz smashes the rebound into the net, with the flag then going up against Watkins, who makes no complaints.
