The Belgian striker is set to undergo a medical after the Reds reached a £32.5m deal with Villa who are now looking to fill a huge void in attack.
The Villans are ready to use Liverpool's money as well as £8m from Fabian Delph's move to Manchester City.
According to the Daily Mirror, Austin is considered as a good alternative as he scored 18 goals in 35 appearances at his Premier League debut last season and also earned a place at the England squad.
The 25-year-old is a hot commodity as he has garnered interest from Newcastle, Leicester City and Crystal Palace.
However, Tim Sherwood is looking to use his good relationship with QPR director of football Les Ferdinand with whom he worked together at Tottenham Hotspur, in order to materialise the transfer.
Sherwood was initially keen on bringing Emmanuel Adebayor, a player he revived at Spurs, but the deal seems to be falling out and so he is now looking to meet Austin's £15m release clause.
The Daily Express claims that the Villa manager will actually make a claim for Wilson who scored 20 goals to help Bournemouth finish first in the Championship and qualify to the Premier League.
The 23-year-old has also attracted interest from champions Chelsea but the Midlands' club are set to meet the Cherries' £7m release clause.
Last January, the FA Cup finalists asked about the youngster but withdrew their interest after hearing his asking price.
The England U21 international has amassed 45 appearances with Bournemouth where he moved last year from Coventry City.
