From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

RYAN GIGGS is ready to return for Manchester United. The Welshman, out with a foot injury since United's 2-0 win over Liverpool on 24 September, has missed just two games thanks to the international break. Alex Ferguson, the Manchester United manager, may decide to use Giggs as a substitute with next week's trip to face Brondby in the Champions' League uppermost in his mind. Ferguson is optimistic Peter Schmeichel will be ready for that game, but the goalkeeper is ruled out today as Raimond van der Gouw continues while midfielder Nicky Butt is suspended. Denis Irwin (heel) misses out, but Phil Neville is fit after an injury scare while on England duty and Teddy Sheringham has recovered from a calf strain.

Joe Kinnear, the Wimbledon manager, names an unchanged squad. The only cloud on his horizon is striker Efan Ekoku's continued hamstring trouble, but Kinnear is more than happy to keep faith with his youngsters. He said: "They've done the club proud and yet there's still plenty to come from them. "
