Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

EVERTON HAVE local boy Tony Grant in their squad for the first time this season for the Mersey derby battle with Liverpool in which they have had the upper hand in recent years. He could be competing for a place with Gareth Farrelly because of Olivier Dacourt's suspension. The full- back Mitch Ward is also called in after injury, while Marco Materazzi is also suspended. New signing Ibrahim Bakayoko should make his debut. Duncan Ferguson will lead the Everton line and he could be the one to trouble Liverpool's suspect defensive aerial ability.

Liverpool, who have not won at Goodison Park since 1990, welcome Steve McManaman back. He has been out with an Achilles injury since the defeat at Manchester United on 24 September. Jason McAteer came back from Irish duty with a thigh injury, while American goalkeeper Brad Friedel has a groin problem. The Norwegian full-back Vegard Heggem should replace McAteer, while Tony Warner could be on the substitutes' bench if Friedel fails a fitness test.
