TRANMERE STROLLED into the quarter-finals of the Worthington Cup with a 4-0 win over Barnsley at Prenton Park last night. Andy Parkinson, Alan Morgan, Clint Hill and the substitute Michael Black scored to earn the Wirral club a lucrative date against Middlesbrough.
Parkinson took just three minutes to put the home side ahead when a deflection off Chris Barker let the youngster in to shoot past Kevin Miller.
Morgan scored the second in first-half injury time when he drove home from 25 yards after a well-worked set-piece. Such was their dominance that it was no surprise when Hill arrived at the far post to put away the third after 57 minutes and Black's delightful curl around Miller with four minutes remaining finished Tranmere's night off in style.
