LAZIO MADE a great start to their Champions' League Group D campaign with a 2-0 win at Marseilles last night.

The Yugoslav international Dejan Stankovic gave the Italians the lead in the 63rd minute, heading in a right-wing cross from Giuseppe Pancaro. The victory was sealed 13 minutes from time when Marcelo Salas drifted behind the French side's back four and crossed for Sergio Conceicao to tap into an unguarded net.

In Group C, Real Madrid won 2-1 at Dynamo Kiev with goals from Fernando Morientes, after 17 minutes, and Raul, three minutes after the break. Serhiy Rebrov responded for the Ukrainians with an 86th-minute penalty.

In the other Group C match, Bayern Munich controlled long spells of their game at Rosenborg Trondheim but were held to a 1-1 draw by the Norwegians. Carsten Jancker opened the scoring in the 10th minute for the Germans but last year's runners-up were wasteful in front of goal and they paid the price at the start of the second half when Bent Skammelsrud struck the equaliser.
