INTERNAZIONALE rekindled their Italian championship ambitions on Sunday by winning the Milan derby 3-0 with two goals from the Argentinian Diego Simeone and one from Ronaldo. With eight matches left in the closest Serie A race since 1991, Juventus have 54 points, one ahead of Inter and two in front of Lazio.
Filippo Inzaghi hauled Juventus back from 2-0 down to earn a priceless point from a 2-2 draw at Parma yesterday. Inzaghi made one for Alessio Tacchinardi and scored the other as the league leaders saved a match which threatened to deal a major blow to their chances of a second consecutive title. Mario Stanic and Massimo Crippa had given Parma a two-goal lead with headers. Juve were doubly fortunate as Lazio only drew 0-0 at home to Piacenza.
Christian Vieri scored four goals for Atletico Madrid and yet still ended up on the losing side, as Salamanca pulled off a last-gasp 5-4 victory on Saturday. Yesterday a goal by Predrag Mijatovic, looking suspiciously offise, gave Real Madrid a 2-1 win over Compostela and kept them seven points behind the leaders, Barcelona, who beat Athletic Bilbao 4-0 on Saturday.
