From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

THREE England internationals are close to returning to Premier League action after injuries and illness. The two Liverpool defenders, Mark Wright and Rob Jones, and Lee Sharpe, the Manchester United winger, all successfully came through comeback matches on Tuesday night.
Jones, who appeared to be the answer to England's troublesome right-back slot when he excelled against France in February, seems fully recovered from his shin-splints operation and may be recalled for Liverpool's game with United on Sunday. The 20-year-old full-back was outstanding for the reserves against Wolves, hitting a post in a 2-0 win. Wright, who had been plagued by a dead-leg, also completed 90 minutes.
Sharpe is on his way back after a serious case of viral meningitis and lasted 67 minutes of United's 2-0 friendly defeat by Chester City. 'I am not rushing things and I'm taking it step by step,' the 21-year-old flyer said.
Southampton yesterday placed David Speedie, their midfielder who signed from Blackburn three months ago, on the transfer-list. Ian Branfoot, the Saints manager, said he wanted the 32-year-old Scottish international to live near the Hampshire club, and not commute from his Coventry base. Speedie has not asked for a transfer.
Chris Kamara has. The experienced Luton Town midfielder, who moved from Leeds United last season, asked for a transfer yesterday, saying he was keen to switch to a club closer to his Yorkshire home.
