From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Barnsley 2 Bolton Wanderers 2

Neil Redfearn scored twice in an 11-minute spell to earn Barnsley a point and slow Bolton's drive back towards the Premiership.

The Nationwide League First Division leaders, already ahead through John McGinlay's second-minute penalty looked on course for their tenth win in 14 games when Alan Thompson scored four minutes into the second half but Redfearn gave Barnsley hope with a 57th-minute volley. He then held his nerve to equalise from the spot.

The game got off to an explosive start when Scott Sellars lofted the ball forward from just inside the home half, McGinlay headed on and Thompson was fouled by Steve Davis. Referee Mike Bailey pointed to the spot, ignoring Barnsley's complaints, and with only 75 seconds played, McGinlay knocked in his 11th goal of the season.

The action was fast and furious with Redfearn twice going close, and McGinlay, Thompson and Johansen all having chances for Bolton.

Barnsley emerged after the break looking ready for a battle, but had their guns spiked when Thompson doubled Bolton's lead four minutes into the half, his low, 25-yard shot going in off the Dutchman Arjan de Zeeuw.

Barnsley got the break they wanted after 57 minutes when John Hendrie outpaced Jimmy Phillips and crossed for Redfearn to score. Bolton became flustered, and Hendrie was hauled down by Phillips as he darted into the penalty area and Redfearn squared matters from the spot.
