Football / Overseas Round-Up: Gleeful Gullit hits double

THE contrasting fortunes of two Dutchmen figured large in yesterday's Serie A matches. Two goals made Ruud Gullit the toast of Milan's 2-1 win over Lazio while Dennis Bergkamp, of Internazionale, was sent off for the first time since his move to Italy.

Gullit's spectacular volley, less than a minute after Lazio's Alen Boksic looked to have earned his side a point with an 89th minute equaliser, captialised on the 78th- minute lead he had established with an unstoppable header. Bergkamp earned his red card for elbowing a defender in Inter's scoreless draw at Brescia.

Parma opened a two-point lead at the top of the table with a 2-1 victory over Cagliari, while a 43rd-minute goal from Mauro Bertarelli appeared to have secured Sampdoria a share of the first division lead until Luigi Di Biagio's 86th-minute equaliser ruined the Genoa club's 100 per cent record. Sampdoria join three clubs - Roma, Milan and Fiorentina - in second place.

In the French Second Division, a Tony Cascarino hat-trick helped Marseille secure a 5-1 victory against Dunkirk.

Diego Maradona, banned for 15 months after testing positive for drugs at the World Cup, has joined the Argentine club, Boca Juniors, as an apprentice coach.
