Football: O'Leary joins Graham's staff

George Graham made his first addition to the Leeds United staff last night when he named David O'Leary as assistant manager, writes Phil Shaw. O'Leary, 38, served under Graham at Arsenal for eight years before joining Leeds as a player in 1993.

Injury restricted his appearances with the Elland Road club to 10, but he now returns in place of Howard Wilkinson's deputy, Mick Hennigan.

Graeme LeSaux's bid for a quick comeback for Blackburn Rovers hit a snag last night. The England left-back made a return to action after a nine- month layoff when he turned out for the reserve team. However, Le Saux was obviously still feeling the right ankle he broke and dislocated last December.

LeSaux tried not to use the foot and winced in pain when he pulled down a driven cross just before the hour. LeSaux's confidence was affected by that moment of doubt after an impressive opening spell.
