From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

JIM MAGILTON, of Oxford United, was sent off and seven other players were booked in the 3-0 Barclays League First Division win over Cambridge United at the Manor Ground last night.

Magilton was dismissed in the 58th minute after he was fouled by Paul Raynor - the visitors' fourth player to be booked - and retaliated violently by kneeing him in the face while he was lying on the ground. Two minutes later, Jon Sheffield, the Cambridge keeper, collapsed after being struck by a coin thrown from the crowd. He carried on after treatment and extra police went behind the goal.

There was more trouble at Bristol City, where West Ham's coach, Harry Redknapp, was interviewed by police after violence broke out near the end of his team's 5-1 win. Redknapp was reported by a spectator for allegedly making an obscene gesture to the crowd.
