Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Terry Venables and Jack Charlton will be without several key players for the friendly between Ireland and England in Dublin on 15 February because of the Coca-Cola Cup semi-finals.

ITV yesterday decided to televise live the first leg of the Liverpool v Crystal Palace semi-final at Anfield on the same date. As a result England will be without Liverpool's John Barnes, Steve McManaman, Rob Jones, Neil Ruddock and John Scales, while Charlton will be robbed of the Liverpool defender Phil Babb.

The other semi-final first leg - between Swindon and Bolton at the County Ground, is being televised live in all regions on Sunday 12 February. The coverage details for the second legs will be announced on Monday, the Football League said yesterday.

Northern Ireland have been invited to compete in a three-team tournament, the Canada Cup, next May. The tournament, also involving Canada and Chile, will be held in Edmonton, Alberta.
