The former Tranmere Rovers owner Peter Johnson has shed light on why he delayed the sale of his interest in the Merseyside club. A statement issued to fans at Prenton Park before yesterday's third round FA Cup tie against Ipswich, read: "Mr Corfe commenced legal proceedings in which he claimed rights to certain interests in the club and sought to disrupt and delay the sale process. Now that Mr Corfe's legal action has been withdrawn, the thorough process can proceed unhindered. Discussions are taking place with three interested parties and it is hoped that a new owner will take over Mr Johnson's interest early in the New Year." Meanwhile, Bolton Wanderers, chasing promotion to the Premiership, have signed the former Blackburn and Sheffield Wednesday utility player Paul Warhurst on a permanent basis. Bolton have agreed a pounds 800,000 deal with their First Division rivals Crystal Palace and the transfer is expected to be completed early next week following a medical.
