Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

THE BAYERN Munich midfielder Stefan Effenberg sees no reason why his club should not become the first German club to win the title, the domestic Cup and the European Cup in one season.

"I want to win everything," said Effenberg, who scored a goal in his side 3-3 draw at Dynamo Kiev in their European Cup semi-final first leg on Wednesday. "We don't want to lose a single match. We don't know when we will have such a great team again. Look at Real [Madrid]. They won the European Cup last year and they're nowhere now."

Recapturing the German title they lost to Kaiserslautern last May should be merely a formality for Bayern. They are 15 points clear ahead of tomorrow's home match against troubled Schalke 04. They are also the hot favourites to retain the German Cup against Werder Bremen in the final on 12 July in Berlin.

Bayern had won their last eight league matches without conceding a goal when they had to fight back from two goals down to snatch a 2-2 draw at their arch rivals, Borussia Dortmund, last weekend.
