From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference. The directors of East Fife wore the widest smiles of the weekend in anticipation of a windfall from their Tennents Scottish Cup fourth-round tie away to Rangers. The prospect of a heavy defeat at the hands of the cup holders will be sweetened by the prospect of a cheque for pounds 150,000 for their exertions.
In the third round a goal on his home debut by Sebastian Rozental, the Chilean striker, helped Rangers to a 2-0 win over St Johnstone, the runaway leaders of the First Division, while East Fife landed their plum draw thanks to a 3-1 win over Queen's Park at Hampden.
The top tie of the fourth round will see Celtic travel to face the winners of tomorrow's replay between Hibernian and Aberdeen. Jorge Cadete kept up his recent scoring form with Celtic's first two goals in a 5-0 demolition of Clydebank yesterday. Malky Mackay, who is a target for Oxford United, scored Celtic's third and there were further goals from Pierre van Hooijdonk and Paolo di Canio.
The only real surprise of the third round was a 3-1 home win for Clyde, from the Second Division, over St Mirren, from the First. Clyde's win followed victories over Huntly and Ayr United and they will now approach Kilmarnock in the fourth round in confident mood.
Berwick Rangers, who are rooted at the bottom of the Second Division, came within 15 minutes of beating Falkirk at Brockville. Berwick, who had taken a first-half lead, had been reduced to 10 men before Albert Craig rescued Falkirk with a late goal from the penalty spot to secure a 1-1 draw.
Arbroath came from behind to give Morton a fright in a 2-2 draw at Gayfield.
