From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Dele Adebola, Crewe Alexandra's transfer-listed striker, for whom the club have already turned down a bid of pounds 800,000 from West Ham, has held talks with the Spanish club, Valencia.

Crewe, who could lose Adebola on a "free" under the Bosman ruling next summer, have now circulated all Premiership clubs again with details of his availability.

Sheffield Wednesday wish to re-sign the midfielder John Harkes from Washington DC United on loan or transfer until the end of the season.

"I would love to go back to England and play with the best players in the world," said Harkes, who is captain of the United States team. "I just wish it had happened during the off-season."

Eric Cantona is set to play for Manchester United again, in a tribute to mark the 40th anniversary of the Munich air disaster at Old Trafford next month. The match is in aid of Munich victims and their families. According to reports, Cantona will play one half for an international XI and the other half for his old team.

John Barnwell, the Football League Managers' Association chief, has said that his organisation would "fully support" Brian Clough following the announcement last week that the former Nottingham Forest manager was to be charged by the Premier League for misconduct over irregular payments.

Barnwell said: "Brian Clough is still a member and a past president and therefore stays on as a member of ours."

The women's National League Cup final will be between three-times winners Arsenal and first-timers Croydon, who beat the favourites Everton courtesy of two second-half goals from England's Kerry Davis.

Arsenal won 4-2 on penalties after their game against Bradford City ended 2-2 after extra time. Arsenal had the England goalkeeper Sarah Reed sent off.
