A 16-year-old So Paulo fan was shot dead by rival Palmeiras supporters in So Paulo on Sunday, in an incident which police said was becoming routine in the city. Anderson Lins de Medeiros was shot in the head two hours before the start of Sunday's game between the two sides.

FC Lige, of the Belgian First Division, have decided to merge with Tilleur of the Third Division in order to avoid bankruptcy. The new club, Royal Tilleur Club Ligeois, will play at Tilleur. FC Lige's stadium has been declared unsafe.

In today's World Youth Championship semi-finals, Portugal will play Brazil and Spain meet Argentina. In Sunday's quarter-finals, Portugal beat Australia 2-1 in sudden-death extra time and Argentina beat Cameroon 2-0. Earlier Spain beat Russia 4-1, while Brazil came back from a goal down to beat Japan 2-1.
