VANESSA WEAVER died as the result of a fall in yesterday's Tythrop Park Horse Trials, casting another shadow over a sport which had already suffered from three fatal accidents to riders this year, writes Genevieve Murphy.

The latest tragedy occurred after Weaver's seven-year-old gelding, Kharon, catapulted her out of the saddle at a fence before falling on top of her. Kharon sustained minor injuries.

The Horse Trials Committee received a report from a working party which was set up after the deaths of Richard Adams, (29 May), Malcolm Munro-Kerr, (5 June), and Mark Holliday (16 June). There will be an immediate investigation into yesterday's accident.
