Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Sweden's Monica Oberg leads the European Top Fuel Dragsters category, but only just ahead of Risto Poutiainen, from Finland, as they enter the final round at Santa Pod. It has been a close-run season. Oberg won in May at Santa Pod, but the final of the penultimate round at Hockenheim was rained off and will be run tomorrow. Poutiainen will contest that final against the surprise German newcomer, Rico Anthes. To be outright series winner, Poutiainen must beat Anthes in the delayed Hockenheim final, win the final round and hope Oberg fails to reach the semi-finals. Whatever happens, the racing will be thrilling.

How to get there: Santa Pod Raceway, Bedfordshire, is signposted from junction 14 of M1 and close to A1 and A6 (Tel: 0234-781676). Weekend ticket: pounds 30 adults. Daily: Tomorrow: pounds 15 adults. Sunday: pounds 18. Children aged 11 to 16 half-price, 11 and under free. Racing tomorrow and Sunday runs from 10am to 6pm.
