Lizzie Armitstead crash video: British cyclist withdraws from Aviva Women's Tour after crashing into photographers while celebrating

The 26-year-old lost control soon after winning the first stage of the tour

Cyclist Lizzie Armitstead, a silver medallist at London 2012 and gold medallist at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, has pulled out of the Aviva Women's Tour after a collision with photographers shortly after winning the first stage.

After crossing the finishing line as winner in Aldeburgh, the 26-year-old Briton crashed into photographers at the roadside, knocking her off her bike and causing a number of other cyclists to fall after completing the first stage of the tour.

Armitstead was rushed to hospital in an ambulance and later tweeted to confirm that while she was not seriously injured, she would not be continuing on in the tour, with the next stage due to take place in Braintree on 18 June.

Explaining the cause of the crash, an official statement from the Aviva Women's Tour read, "After crossing the line with her arms in the air stage winner Lizzie Armitstead appeared to lose control and veer left, clipping photographers positioned beyond the finish line."
