From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. Your support makes all the difference. The England captain Michael Vaughan had wanted a four-day work-out on his right knee, but in the end he had to make do with three after Yorkshire's abject surrender with bat and ball.
Yesterday's victory injected some pep into Middlesex's season as they climbed off the bottom of the First Division with their first Championship win since July thanks to a finedisplay by Chris Peploe.
The 6ft 4in left-arm spinner produced a personal best with bat and ball. He began the day by ensuring Middlesex picked up maximum batting points with a patient 43. Then the 25-year-old returned a career best 4 for 31, while Jamie Dalrymple weighed in with 3 for 56, to help to send Yorkshire spinning to the lowest team total by a visiting side on this ground and Middlesex knocked off the 71 runs required in 16.3 overs.
Vaughan caused a frisson of fear to run through the England camp when he pulled savagely at one from Chris Silverwood. The ball cracked painfully against Ed Joyce's forearm, but although the Irishman left the field for treatment he eventually returned to the action, what little there was.
The Yorkshire innings lasted just 45.5 overs, but at least there was time for their former player Chris Silverwood to claim the 500th wicket of his first-class career when he bowled Andrew Gale.
Vaughan departed, caught off Johann Louw, and Silverwood struck again in his next over to dismiss Anthony McGrath.
