England fast bowler Stuart Broad has said he did not mean to insult anyone earning minimum wage after receiving a backlash on Twitter.
The 28-year-old earned the ire of many users of the social networking site on Tuesday after writing: "I've heard if you earn minimum wage in England you're in the top 10 per cent earners in the World. #stay #humble."
The controversial comment, which has since been deleted, was perceived by some as being hypocritical when, as one of England's star players for many years, he is on a lucrative deal.
Broad, though, expressed his remorse at making the remark, insisting that the hashtag was meant to serve as a reminder to himself rather than an instruction to the rest of the public.
"Clarifying my earlier tweet, I merely wanted to emphasise my amazement at just how big the world is," he said.
"No offence meant and sorry if any taken. The hashtag was aimed at myself."
