Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

First, the England all-rounder took on the Durham attack with gusto, hitting 58 runs off just 32 balls, before conceding just 28 runs off his seven overs. Only Tim Bresnan bettered his economy rate.
However, Silverwood was not the only Yorkshire player to shine with the bat. Darren Lehmann hit 70 off just 63 balls and their were also important knocks from Michael Lumb (42) and Anthony McGrath (40).
Durham never came close to the required run rate, with Richard Dawson taking 4 for 37.
In the Second Division, Derbyshire cantered to a seven-wicket win over Lancashire at Derby to move joint top of the table with Gloucestershire.
Kevin Dean gave Derbyshire the perfect start, removing Lancashire's one-day specialist Neil Fairbrother for one with just six runs on the board.
Dominic Cork and Matthew Dowman then helped restrain the Lancashire order with only Warren Hegg (29 off 43 balls) and Chris Schofield (18 off 14) offering any resistance. In reply, Steve Stubbings hit an unbeaten 98 as Derbyshire reached their target with four overs and seven wickets to spare.
