From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Virender Sehwag made the highest score in one-day international history yesterday, plundering 219 from 149 balls against West Indies in Indore.

It was the second double century in ODIs, following Sachin Tendulkar's 200 not out against South Africa last year.

When Sehwag was out in the 47th over, an innings of 250 was still on. He hit 25 fours and seven sixes. The boundaries were short, the pitch flat and the bowling hapless but it was aggressive batting of the highest order. He was dropped once, by Darren Sammy, West Indies' captain, on 170. India made 418 for 5 and won the match by 153 runs.

Highest one-day scores

V Sehwag 219 (149 balls) for India v West Indies, December 2011.

S R Tendulkar 200* (147) for India v South Africa, February 2011.

C K Coventry 194* (156) for Zim-babwe v Bangladesh, Aug 2009.

Saeed Anwar 194 (146) for Pakistan v India, May 1997.

I V A Richards 189* (170) for West Indies in England, May 1984.
