Liam Livingstone made his one-day international debut as England also called on Dawid Malan and Reece Topley for their must-win clash, after they lost the first match of the series on Tuesday.
With captain Eoin Morgan (hand) and Sam Billings (collar bone) both ruled out, Livingstone and Malan both came into the middle order, while left-arm seamer Topley replaced Mark Wood in the bowling attack.
Morgan’s deputy as skipper, Jos Buttler, won the toss and opted to bowl first as they looked to avoid going 2-0 down in the three-match series.
India had one change of their own, Rishabh Pant coming in for the injured Shreyas Iyer.
