Your support makes all the difference.The West Indies' last pair, fast bowlers Fidel Edwards and Corey Collymore, batted out the last 19 balls amidst growing tension to deny India a remarkable win on the final day of the first Test here yesterday.
India were on the verge of victory as the West Indies lost six wickets after tea when Collymore, whose batting average in Tests in 9.24, joined Edwards (average 4.22). But leg-spinner Anil Kumble and fast bowler Sri Sreesanth, who took six wickets between them, could not dislodge them.
Three wickets for five runs off the last 28 balls before lunch, including Brian Lara lbw for 0, strengthened the grip India established on the third day.
Chris Gayle made 69 before he was ruled lbw to Kumble, who also removed Chanderpaul for 62 to a debatable slip catch. Dave Mohammed batted enterprisingly for 52 but he was bowled attempting an ambition shot off Kumble with 3.1 overs remaining. It left Edwards and Collymore to perform their heroics.
There were dubious umpiring decisions during the day, triggering the throwing of plastic bottles on to the ground from the open section of the ground.
