Hussain quits as one-day captain

Nasser Hussain today announced he will step down as England's one-day captain following their exit from the World Cup.

England's hopes of advancing in the competition disappeared when today's match between Zimbabwe and Pakistan was abandoned due to rain.

And, as expected, Hussain said he would step down and that he wants a younger player to come into the role.

However, he also announced he wants to remain England's Test captain.Hussain said: "The time has come down to stand down as one-day captain, although I would like to carry on as England Test captain if the selectors want to still do that.

"There are people younger than 30 who can come in, there are some very fine players. It's a good opportunity. But I would reiterate I am very keen to continue to captain the Test side.

"I firmly believe England are a better side with me as captain."

Hussain revealed he had only made the decision this afternoon, although he his future in the role had been in some doubt since last year.

"I am mentally and physically drained after this winter. I intend to take two months completely off."
